Zero Waste Shop

Zero Waste Shop

I didn’t start this site because I’m an expert in zero waste.

I started it because I was tired of feeling like I was doing everything wrong — and because most of the zero waste content I found made the whole thing feel harder than it needed to be.

This site is a place to share what I’m learning, what’s worked for me, what hasn’t, and the things I’m still figuring out when it comes to wasting less.

No perfection. No pressure. Just real life.

Why Zero Waste?

Like a lot of people, I didn’t arrive at zero waste through a single big moment.

It was more gradual than that.

I noticed how quickly my bin filled up.
I noticed how much packaging I was throwing away.
I noticed how often I bought things that didn’t really add much to my life.

Zero waste gave me a way to slow down and ask better questions:

  • Do I actually need this?
  • Is there a version with less waste?
  • Can I use what I already have?
  • What happens to this after I throw it away?

I didn’t suddenly change everything. I still haven’t. But those questions stuck with me — and over time, my habits started to shift.

What This Site Is (and Isn’t)

This site is:

  • a collection of thoughts, experiences, and practical ideas
  • written from personal experience
  • focused on progress, not perfection
  • aimed at people who want to waste less without overhauling their entire lives
  • some recommendations of products out there that I personally use

It’s not:

  • a rulebook
  • a checklist
  • a guide to “doing zero waste properly”
  • a place where anyone pretends to have it all figured out

I don’t live a zero waste lifestyle. I live a less-waste-than-before lifestyle — and that’s what I write about.

How I Approach Zero Waste

My approach to zero waste is simple and very unglamorous.

I try to:

  • notice my habits before trying to change them
  • reduce waste where it’s easiest first
  • use what I already have
  • avoid buying things “just to be sustainable”
  • accept that some things are harder than others

Some habits stuck quickly. Others took ages. Some still haven’t stuck at all.

I forget my reusable bag sometimes.
I still buy food in packaging.
I still create waste.

What matters to me is the overall direction, not individual slip-ups.

Why I Write in the First Person

You’ll notice I write in the first person a lot.

That’s intentional.

I’m not trying to position myself as an authority or tell anyone how they should live. I’m sharing what I’ve tried, what I’ve learned, and what I’d recommend if you’re starting from a similar place.

If something works for you — great.
If it doesn’t — that’s fine too.

Zero waste looks different for everyone, depending on where you live, how you shop, your time, your energy, and what you care about most.

A Note on Expertise (or Lack of It)

I’m not a scientist.
I’m not a sustainability professional.
I’m not perfectly zero waste.

I read, I learn, I test things out, and I change my mind when I realise something doesn’t work as well as I thought.

When I make mistakes, I talk about them. When I’m unsure about something, I say so.

If you’re looking for someone who has all the answers, this probably isn’t the right place. If you’re looking for something honest, practical, and still in progress — you’re very welcome here.

Why “Zero Waste (or Close Enough)”

The idea of zero waste feels intimidating.

For me, zero waste isn’t a finish line. It’s a direction. A way of thinking that nudges me toward wasting less over time.

If my bin is a little emptier than it used to be, that’s a win.
If I make one better choice this week than last week, that counts.

That’s the mindset behind everything on this site.

If You’re New Here

If you’re just starting out, you don’t need to:

  • buy anything new
  • change everything at once
  • call yourself “zero waste”

You just need to be curious.

If something here helps you waste a little less, think a little differently, or feel less overwhelmed — then happy days.
